On 1/1/2012 I decided to revisit Genesis 1/1 and continue the journey through the Bible.
It is truly amazing to think about the beginning and the awesome way all things began.
We read, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”. Then He continued to move on to make the universe and set the planets, the moon, the sun, the stars and the earth into harmony with each other. He spoke light and darkness into its proper place. He made each animal, bird, and even man and woman, putting them in harmony with His vast creation. As I read the story of this event, I am made to wonder how anyone could not believe in God, how humanity, who received the likeness of God when He breathed life into the first human, can now doubt His power, His very existence and His part in the creation of all that is or ever has been. To believe this vast and precise universe is a result of a huge explosion is akin to believing that I could toss the components of a timepiece into the air and when it falls to the ground, it will be a perfect keeper of time.
Reading on to the actions of the first man and woman, I am even more amazed. To have been able to walk and talk with God, their maker, and then disobey His one order, is so incomprehensible to me. As I read farther into the Book, I continue in amazement at the actions of the following humans, as they continue to witness miracle after miracle, stand in the presence of the Holy God, then turn away in rebellion, for some small desire of the flesh, that will soon pass away, and even when granted to them, only brings joy for a brief moment.
But into this thread of disobedience and disbelief I am grateful that “God is Love” is woven in Crimson Red. Oh, yes, His anger was kindled against the people who broke His Covenant. He brought punishment upon the disobedient, for in His LOVE, He also is a JUST God! When He makes a promise to someone, He is faithful to keep that promise, and every promise comes with a condition of obedience. To Adam and Eve He gave control of all the earth, IF they would not eat of that one tree of knowledge of good and evil. He promised that IF they ate, death would come upon them. The result was a spiritual death, instantly, and a physical death upon the human race. From that moment until the present, humanity is suffering for the disobedience.
Romans 5:18, Therefore as by the offence of one, judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of Life. 19; For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous”.
The God of Creation is still very much in control. In the beginning, He spoke and all things came into being as the Spirit moved upon the face of the world. Today that same Spirit moves upon the hearts of men and women, calling them to obedience to the One True God, the ONLY God, who created man and still provides for him in this life and in eternity. God kept His promise to provide a ransom for mankind, through His Son Jesus Christ’s suffering and death and resurrection.
The only question remains, what will you do with that plan? Ignore? Disobey? Or scorn the offer from your redeemer of eternal life? Or will you open your heart, respond to the Holy Spirit and say, “Yes, I receive life from the Creator of all things.”
